There are many examples in the history where nations rose from ashes and rebuilt themselves through shear determination, hard work and faith. We believe that Pakistan too can overcome the multitude of it's problems if we all accept the challenge and rise to the occasion.

At HDF, we have observed that people in Pakistan are honest & hard working. We have seen the tenacity and the will of our people to survive under the most difficult of circumstances. We have seen them respond enthusiastically to any attempt made to improve their lot. We believe that most of these people are capable of analyzing their problems and finding their solutions given a little bit of help and enabling conditions.

So the challenge for us here is to provide these conditions. Can we come up to this challenge? Our experience with the expatriate Pakistani community is that most of us are enthusiastic to do whatever is in our power. The problem so far has been to find a platform to carry out this mission. We believe that HDF provides this platform. We are trying our best to develop an institution, which is transparent, and responsive to peoples' need and feelings. We need your help and guidance to accomplish this. We know that the challenge is so huge that without grassroots support it is not possible to accomplish or sustain such an effort.

We have launched YesPakistan.com to be a non partisan, open for all forum for all Pakistanis to think together and share each other's experiences, good and bad. Let's learn from each other to become stronger. We have searched through 5000 Pakistani websites to compile a unique annotated Pak Web directory. There is an event calendar for announcements of all Pakistani programs and activities, news, sports, forums to discuss ideas and a section to keep you informed about activities in our projects. Phase one of the site is being launched on August 14th, 2001. We are confident that with your participation and suggestions, our phases two and three will be even better.

We invite everyone who believes in this mission to join the effort and work together to fulfill the dream of every Pakistani. A dream of living in peace and prosperity, with freedom to follow their religious beliefs, and giving their children an opportunity for a bright future. I know we can do it, if we follow the three golden rules; unity, faith and discipline.

Sincerely,

Shahnaz Khan
Interim Chairperson
