Dear (Senator, Congressman, Mayor, etc.)

I am a supporter of the Human Development Foundation, which is profiled in a recent episode of the public television series The Visionaries titled “Progress for Peace”. HDF is doing work today that addresses some of the most pressing global problems we face as a nation and as a people. HDF tackles the corrosive problems of persistent poverty, illiteracy, and social privation in Pakistan, a nation situated in a part of the world where problems such as these can and do serve as catalysts for extremism and violence.

The Human Development Foundation’s mission is to “facilitate a non-political movement for positive social change and community empowerment through mass literacy, enhanced quality of education, universal primary health care and grassroots economic development.” The bulk of the work done by HDF consists of delivering critically needed services to promote literacy, health care, and economic development. But the larger mission demands that we tell the story of Human Development, and that we help to change the very nature of the discussion being held in this country, and around the world, about how we can best achieve peace and security, and promote the common good.

I urge you to consider the value to America and the world of the work being done by this organization. And please also look closely at the Human Development movement, as practiced by the United Nations, the World Bank, and many smaller non-governmental organizations including HDF. Human Development stands as a highly viable alternative to violence and war as a means of conveying the values that this nation was founded on and implementing those values in areas where alternative ideologies can too often find fertile ground.

I would also like to schedule a meeting with you or your staff to discuss how we can enlist your support for this vital movement.

Thank You,

Your Name
