Most Pakistanis seems to be staying away from registration based on the fear created by the mass detention of the early registrants.

 

The registration has created some chaos, confusion, terror and anxiety in the community.  HDF has put a flyer on the web site that can be downloaded and printed for distribution in the community. We have also printed and mailed 60,000 flyers to the community centers around the country. It gives some important information about this whole process.

 

Many Pak-American organizations are extending advice and help affected by the registration scheme. This newsletter will provide you that information.

 

If you are involved with this work or know of an organization which is active in helping people cope with this problem, please let us know and we'll be happy to put that information on this web site.  As this is a very active site it will help in disseminating the information.  We believe that this is the time to work together and collaborate in many different ways.

.:: IF YOU ARE A CITIZEN, PROTEST THIS PROFILING:
Amnesty International is calling this registration system wrong. In a letter to Attorney General John Ashcroft on Friday, Dr. William F. Schulz of Amnesty International U.S.A. wrote that singling out individuals on the basis of national origin "is tantamount to racial discrimination." If you are a citizen you should inform your representative and senators that this is not in the best interest of America.

 

.:: INS IS NOT REGISTERING ILLEGAL PEOPLE
Since INS has said they are not registering the illegal persons, only the legal people are showing up. Some are being registered, some are being asked to come back and some are detained.

Except for North Korea all 24 of the 25 countries that were selected for special registration have Muslim majority. Now BBC is reporting that five more countries, Indonesia, Egypt, Bangladesh, Jordan and Kuwait now have a deadline of 24 February to 28 March to register.

HDF Shamsabad Region was started in April 2000 in Tando Mohammad Khan Tehsil of Hyderabad district with one unit of HDF (1,000 households). Shamsabad is rather an easier region to work in. Most of the beneficiaries are Harries (Farmers who works on the other’s land).
