Relaxed And Happy
Husn Baha, the secretary of DO Ragh
Nari III, has an optimistic outlook
on her own future and that of her
family. A few years ago, however,
her situation was very different.
Twenty five years ago, she married
a very poor man named Syed Ahmad Shah.
His laborer’s income was not
nearly enough to support their growing
family and their life together was
very difficult. Five years ago, even
more hardship struck Husn Baha: her
husband died of electric shock, leaving
her with four daughters, two sons,
and no means of livelihood.
Lonely
and distressed, Husn Baha bought a
second hand sewing machine and began
to sell clothes to her neighbors in
the village. However, the barely functioning
machine drained her time and energy.
Her life took a turn for the better
when HDF arrived in Ragh Nari in February
of 2001.
The women of Ragh Nari formed a
Development Organization, soon raising
a treasury of Rs. 2,000. Husn Baha
requested and received a six-month
loan of Rs. 1,000 to purchase a new
sewing machine. With this new machine,
she generates an income of Rs. 70-80
per day. Whereas before she was tired
and drained, she is now happy and
relaxed. Her income enables her to
fulfill her children’s needs.
Most importantly, it allows her to
dream about a bright future and to
progress towards that future.
