Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Every Muslim must give charity.” Some people asked, “What if he has no money?” He replied, “He should work with his hands, and meet his needs as well as give charity to others.” They asked, “What if he could not, or did not, do that?” He replied, “Then he should assist a needy person in distress.” They asked, “What if he could not do that as well?” He replied, “He should then teach good things. They again asked, “And, if he could not do even that?” He replied, “Then, he should refrain from harming anyone. That, too, be a charity on his part.” [Bukhari & Muslim]

When Dreams Come True …

By Zaibunnisa
Teacher - Community Child Friendly School, Adam Hingora Goth

Kazbano is very talented student of Class-I of Madadgar Child Friendly School Adam Hingora Goth, Malir town Karachi. She narrated her story as follows:

I am from a poor family, but I have a dream ….to learn and to become a teacher and help others to make their dream come true. I have three sisters (two elder and one younger) and a brother, my mother is a maid and father is unemployed. I used to see many children going to school and wished to become like those children, but had no money to bear school expenses. So I planned to go with my mother for labour in morning and with that earnings get tutoring in evening. I started to go with my mother for work (as maid) and in the evening paid for a tutor from my earnings. During my tutoring, I learnt to read newspapers and to write some words. But the wish…… to go to school ….was still there in my heart.

My dreams came true, one day when one of our neighbors came to my mother and asked “Why do your younger daughters not attend school? “Money” my mother replied. She informed my mother about Human Development Foundation’s education program that requires only a nominal fee, and has no additional expenses for books etc. It was very delighting news for me. After relentless persuasion, my mother finally allowed me to apply to this HDF school. My younger sister and I got admission into Child Friendly School (CFS) at Ms. Zaibun-nissa’s (our teacher) house, and we started attending regularly. I pray for all the people in HDF and wish that in the future, HDF can expand its network throughout the country and reach each and every poor child of country. I am confident that Inshallah one day this dream will also come true.
