HDF Summer Internship

Following up on a successful 2002 internship program, the Human Development Foundation is formally hiring 3 Summer Interns for the 2003 summer session.

In order to help HDF carry out its mission of promoting grassroots human development, the US Internship gives young adults (mainly college-aged students) the opportunity to help expand the scope and reach of HDF in its works and dealings in North America.

The deadline for submitting applications is April 1st.

Start date: May 26th
End date: August 15th

HDF’s Central Office: 1350 Remington Road, Suite W, Schaumburg, IL 60173

Room & Board:
The interns will be responsible for finding their own room and board. HDF will try to assist in any housing searches, including room with local families.

Required Skills:
Interns should have strong computer skills, including familiarity with MS Word, Excel, and Access. Strong writing skills are required, as well as the ability to work on projects both independently and in group settings.

The responsibilities of the interns include but are not limited to the following:

  • Explore new avenues for HDF growth, both in regards to donor development and for the Student Mobilization Team
  • Improve quality of HDF’s website:
o Review all pages, suggest revisions, and add content
    o Moderate discussion forums
  • Conduct internet and phone survey of the donors and report the results
  • Create press releases of HDF activities and distribute to Pak-American media
  • Attend community events and Friday prayers at various mosques and distribute HDF materials
  • Assist the office in its database management and donor outreach
  • Help to provide innovative ways to link HDF’s efforts in Pakistan to its image in America

Interns stand to gain extremely valuable skills and experience while working for a very worthwhile and noble cause. First-hand work in media, technology, and public relations is a prime area of focus for the internship. Furthermore, interns will have a full view and understanding of the internal workings of donor-side development projects. Most importantly, the internship leaves room for interns to exercise their own leadership and innovation to help expand and promote the cause of human development.

Stipend & Hours:
Interns will be provided with a monthly stipend for their work with HDF, the amount of which will range between $500 and $800, depending on the number of interns hired. Interns will be expected to work at least 20 hours per week.

How to Apply:
Application materials are available upon request through the HDF central office or via email at [Download the application form (pdf)]. Fill out all of the application materials and send them to the above email address or via fax to (847) 490-7150. Any questions may be directed to Arsalan Suleman at the above email address.
